Public reporting of outcomes in radiation oncology: the National Prostate Cancer Audit

The public reporting of patient outcomes is crucial for quality improvement and informing choice. However, outcome in radiotherapy, despite being a major component cancer control, extremely sparse globally. Public has many challenges, including difficulties defining meaningful measures treatment quality, limitations data infrastructure, fragmented health insurance schemes. National Prostate Cancer Audit (NPCA), done the England Wales Health Service (NHS), shows that it feasible to develop indicators radiotherapy treatment, patient-reported outcomes. NPCA provides transparent mechanism comparing performance all NHS providers, with results accessible patients, policy makers. Using as case study, we discuss development radiotherapy-outcomes programme, its impact future potential, challenges opportunities this approach across other tumour types different systems.
